Our Auxiliary Committee
The Auxiliary for Fahrney Keedy Senior Living Community was established to work cooperatively with the Board of Trustees and Fahrney Keedy’s executive team to support, to maintain, and enrich the organization and its residents.
Learn About Our Auxiliary
Stated Purpose
The stated purpose of the Auxiliary is to develop within the membership of Church of the Brethren congregations of the Mid-Atlantic District of Maryland and within the surrounding community and a deep interest and loyal support of Fahrney Keedy, for the physical comfort and spiritual welfare of all the residents of the Home family. To that end, in addition to our modest dues, we hold various money-raising events and strive to provide spiritual and moral support through prayer, visitation, and volunteering services.
General Meetings
General meetings, which include a covered dish luncheon, are held in April and October and the Executive Board meets in January, April, July, and October. All members of the congregations of the Church of the Brethren in the Mid-Atlantic District and all friends, families, and persons interested in the Home are eligible for membership. Yearly dues are $2.00 and life memberships are $50.00.
Sources of Income
Sources of income in addition to dues are through fund raising activities and include a food and bake sale the second Saturday in June and a yard sale, food, and bake sale the second Saturday in September.
Volunteerism
In addition to money, members of the Auxiliary volunteer countless hours in assisting residents of the Home in various ways: operating the gift shop, transporting residents to appointments within the Home (i.e. therapy, beauty shop, various activities), editing a monthly newsletter for residents of the Nursing/Assisted Living units, and visiting residents in Boonsboro, MD, to name a few.
Allocation of Funds
Funds are used for various purposes to benefit the Home and its residents. A major ongoing project is the Scholarship Fund which is made available to train and upgrade education of employees of the Home. Additionally, a few of the recent items purchased with Auxiliary funds include table umbrellas and shade canopies for the Bowman Center outdoor tables, two-way radios for the use of Activities staff as they work with residents throughout the building, upgrading the sound system in the Auditorium, gift cards for the purchase of supplies from A.C. Moore, Michaels, and JoAnn Fabrics, metal shelving to store craft supplies, donations of funds to various Home special events, and donations of funds to the Home Benevolent fund.
